What Is Twitter Anyway?

Twitter is:

a fantastic communication tool
a networking hub
a water cooler for the home based worker
a directory of like minded peeps

Twitter is a free social networking service that allows users to answer the question, “what are you doing?” in 140 characters or less. The short answer is called a tweet. These tweets provide an excellent way to inform others about what is happening in your life right now and for inviting family members and friends to join you.

The service has continued to gain users since it started in 2006; Twitter now has over 5 million users and that number continues to grow.

Twitter is always expanding. The service is currently compatible with other social pieces of the puzzle such as Facebook, RSS and SMS (text messages). As Twitter grows (and it will), its goal is to continue to provide users with new tools for communication.

When it comes to finding out about what is going on with the lives around you, it is all in the “tweets”.
